who is George?

I'm George Jones, Owner and Founder of Phoenix 2000 Incorporated, a Computer Consulting and Placement Company located in Clayton, North Carolina (about 15 miles Southeast of Raleigh).

I became involved in Computer Programming in the late 1980's and started placement services shortly thereafter. Obviously, I'm not much of a web designer... I'm a Mainframe Dinosaur and program in an old business language called Cobol.

My wife Stephanie and I have been married for 19+ years and have two beautiful children.

Since early childhood, I've had a fascination... no, make that a love for Aviation. When I hear an airplane, I just can't help myself... I instinctively look up! (video) Come on now, after watching that you must admit it's a thing of beauty! By the way, that's my Piper Twin Comanche N8692Y in the video... Sweeeeet!

I began flying in 2000 and have accumulated over 2400 hours of flying time. I'm rated in land and sea, single and multi-engine airplanes and have an instrument rating for flying in adverse weather. Of course that doesn't mean I go looking for thunder storms... safety is always first!

Rule to live by... you can build a mile of road and get a mile down the road... build a mile of runway, get anywhere in the world!

what is George doing here?

I fly all over the Southeast visiting my Consultants and Clients. I try to plan ahead and schedule several appointments at once, but often my travel is spontaneous, staying overnight on occasion as well as just long enough to have lunch or even coffee. I've found that my clients respond very positively to my personal visits. But then there's the cost of fuel... ouch! Ranging from $4.50 to $6 per gallon, and disappearing from my airplane at the rate of 22 gallons per hour... this is where you and I could help each other. If you ride along, we could split the costs of fuel. Please understand... I'm not a charter service. I cannot take you on a flight that I wasn't already planning to make. This is a ridesharing opportunity only!

why does George do this?

Apart my my love of flying (mentioned above), flying general aviation is a great way to travel, having many advantages of commercial airlines. First, it can be a major time saver. For example, and this is a real-life example. For several years I worked as a consultant in Alabama. Flying commercial consisted of a 40 minute drive from Clayton NC to Raleigh, then waiting approximately 1 hour for the flight. A 1-hour flight to Atlanta, then 30 minutes to get luggage and to car. Lastly, a two hour drive (150 miles) to the work site. Total time 6+ hours... yuk! Compare that to a leisurely 15 minute drive to Johnston County Airport (Smithfield NC), and a 2.5 hour flight to Alexander City, Alabama... oh yea, almost forgot the 3 minute drive to work. To summarize... half the time. Take a few minutes and check out this spreadsheet of flying versus driving (compare). Next, no security lines to go through. Of course this doesn't mean that I don't restrict you from bringing illegal items on the plane, but you won't have to stand in a line of people to check your luggage. Another difference is the variety of airports and locations. Did you know that for every commercial airport, there's probably 10 or more smaller airports available to general aviation?

where does George go?

The answer... anywhere I want. All kidding aside now. I regularly flying from North Carolina to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee, as well as many other destinations. As stated earlier, some of my trips are scheduled, but most are not planned very far in advance. I'm still an active Consultant and am regularly working out of town during the week. Almost weekly, I make trips to Atlanta and Columbus GA, Alabama and other destinations. If you haven't already, take a look at this spreadsheet to see a few example locations (compare), but remember, no airport is off-limit... the variety is endless! current list of scheduled flights I'm currently involved in a new marketing business as well as my consulting so I'm flying somewhere just about everyday including Atlanta, Columbus GA, Macon GA, Charlotte, Asheville NC, and other destinations.

FAQ's for George

The purpose of this page is to answer some of the more general questions that I have been asked, most having two many variables to answer accurately. This is is no way meant to belittle anyone, just saving to further clarify what I'm offering here...

Q. Can George take you on a flight to ???

A. Remember, I'm not a charter service, however I do fly all over the Southeast for business and pleasure, taking passengers along the way to help share the costs of fuel and oil. The difference is this: I cannot take you on a flight that I wasn't already planning. After I plan a flight, I attempt to fill my empty seats using various advertising methods but most importantly, but sending out an email to my distribution list in hopes that I'll find passengers that want to ride along and help me share the costs.

Q. Are you cheaper than commercial flights?

A. Sometimes, but not always. Commercial flights have the advantage of taking many paying passengers, in some cases hundreds. This is not true in my case. I can carry 4-6 people (including myself) at one time, or 4 people with luggage. Aviation fuel is very expensive... exactly why I'm offering to take passengers along to help share the costs. The real advantage to general aviation is the ability to fly direct to many more destinations that with commercial carriers, and in some case, much quicker. Less security hassles and less waiting. No reason to arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flight. Generally speaking, arriving 10-15 minutes is more than sufficient. Remember too, that for every commercial airport, there's 10 general aviation airports available to me. The bottom line here, and I'm sorry to be blunt... if you're trying to beat the price of a $59 commercial flight, it probably won't happen. However, if you're trying to save several hours of waiting, give me a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Q. Do you fly to the Bahamas?

A. Yes, on occasion however I tend to keep a fairly lengthy list of people wanting to go with me already. If you're interested, please let me know and I'll consider you on my next flight.

Q. How much does a flight cost?

A. I wish I could quote costs like this but unfortunately, there are many variables involved that will dictate your costs. Remember first, that I'm not a charter service, however I do fly all over the Southeast for business and pleasure, taking passengers along the way the share the costs of flying (fuel and oil). When I plan a trip, I send out my "flight announcement" and hope to coordinate my travel plans with others. Basically, the more passengers I have on board, the cheaper it will be be passenger.

Q. How do I take full advantage of what George is offering?

A. First, sign up to be on my flying distribution email list. This way you'll receive flight announcements when I travel, and hopefully we can coordinate our travel plans.
